The sports trend in 2020 will shift to a health-oriented training. In 2019 we were exercising with all of our strength to push ourselves towards the limit, however this year, we are trying to embrace those boundaries. We’ll take a break from the number-focused exercises that were popular in the past years.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s take a peek at the upcoming mainstream sports trends in 2020!

HILIT (High Intensity Low-impact Training)

Last year, HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) had revolutionized the way people exercised. From this sports trend, we learnt how to exercise using minimal equipment and maximize the amount of calories burnt. The jump squats, jumping jacks, and burpees that are a part of HIIT that made us push our body’s capabilities to the limit.

So, in 2020, we will welcome HIIT’s “cousin” known as HILIT (High-Intensity Low-impact Training). Like HIIT, HILIT exercises are also performed for short periods interspersed with rest. However, these movements do not include jumping, rather focusing on low impact movements.

For those of you who want to experience the HILIT exercise, start with squats while maintaining your legs so you don’t leave your footing. You can also try a variety of jumping jacks without jumping, just by shifting your feet. With these movements, HILIT can be done even by people who are still injured because the risk factor during training is greatly minimized.

Group Sports

Why do you have to exercise alone while doing sports with your friends is so much better? Let oxytocin rise along with the fun sports trends of 2020!

Healthy friends will provide you with plenty of motivation and a reminder whenever you don’t feel like exercising. But, if you don’t have friends who have the same passion, worry not. You can find new friends in the classroom or studio.

This type of sport is on the rise and is starting to appear in fitness centres that provides group training areas to welcome you and your friends. Now, you just have to choose and set a schedule whether to take a Zumba, pound fit, salsa, or yoga classes. Group sports are not only inclusive towards the gym, but you will also see people training together at the mall, or cycling and running together in city parks.

Exercise in Nature

The city’s concrete jungle is not a natural human habitat. In 2020, the trend of sports in the forests will develop as people desire to revert back to natural life. You can do this by spending time trekking, cycling, or walking through the forests to recharge your mood and feel happy.

Exercising in the forests will make you feel one with nature through the five senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. By freeing your mind, you will bridge the gap between yourself and the natural world.

In 2020 there will be a shift in sports trends from pose-based yoga to holistic yoga that emphasizes meditation and breathing. Yes, yoga poses are aesthetic Instagram posts, however, without breathing and meditation, we will miss out on the benefits of yoga itself.

Breathing exercises or pranayama offers several benefits towards the body, such as an increased supply of oxygen to the blood, releasing muscle tension, and improved sleeping patterns and digestion.

Not only will meditation help reduce stress and anxiety, but it is also very beneficial in healing and reducing stress. With holistic yoga, you can also improve your recovery rate from the stress caused by high physical activities. In turn, holistic yoga will give much better results!

From the sports trends that will hit in 2020, we see a slight transformation from the era of physical fitness towards exercising for overall health. So, do not be surprised if the elements of health outside of sports and physical exercises also develop.
